SAT/ ACT Overview and Student Assessment
Have you thought about both the SAT and ACT? Do you know the differences or which option is best for you or your student? Many students are choosing to take both these days, and many parents have questions:
This comprehensive three-hour evaluation and information session will begin by exploring these options and describing how our trained specialist will assess your student's needs. Regardless of which test(s) you choose, students will be provided a full-length practice SAT test which will be used to diagnose strengths and weaknesses and develop a personalized tutoring program. This test will be completed prior to the tutor arriving. A comprehensive assessment of the Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing portions of the exam will be administered by experienced, professional instructors. Information ascertained from this evaluation will be used to pinpoint specific areas of need which can then be adapted for individualized instruction for either test.
The full evaluation will be divided into two separate one and a half hour sessions. The first session will be used as a discussion forum for the above and will allow the instructor to complete the math portion of the assessment based on the student's completed practice test. This information and insights will be shared with you. The second session will begin with the student writing a twenty-five minute essay and will end with the completed assessment of the language arts portion of the exam. The student essay will be evaluated for mastery, point of view, organization and focus, English language use and vocabulary, sentence structure, and grammar, usage, and mechanics.
Student Performance Review:
Upon completion of the assessment, a detailed report will be provided indicating the type and level of difficulty of each problem missed. You will be issued the student's score card and the SAT Score Conversion for each section of the test. Our trained and experienced instructors will then recommend a planned course of study for your student.
SAT/ ACT Tutoring
It is generally recommended that students complete twelve to eighteen hours of instruction per subject area in math and critical reading or English. It is also recommended to have six to twelve hours of instruction per subject in writing and science reasoning (ACT only). Students have the option of preparing for only those sections of the test that concern them most or for the full array of the test(s). Accolade instructors will both review content and teach specialized test-taking strategies to help students build their confidence and increase their scores. They will learn one-on-one how to handle difficult problems and evaluate their own work.
